#13 Dig Music and Brew Tea

Autumn is said to be a time for reading, a time for art, a time when appetites grow…

Whatever way you slice it, it’s a time for a little self-indulgence.

On this crisp, clear autumn day, I decide to take a walk into town and find myself something new and interesting.

Some album covers are familiar, others are new. I take them all in hand and look at each in turn.

The very act naturally stimulates the imagination.

Just as I do with records, I occasionally buy tea based on the look of the cover alone.

What color will it be? What aroma, what flavor?

I find myself imagining the possibilities as I open the package.

Teaware ¥4,290 (Ocha SURU? Glass Kyu-su 01); Felt sleeve ¥1,100; Sencha “HENGE” (TADA TEA PRODUCTS, from CHAGOCORO brew note Album (7 varieties, ¥1,296))
    Knitted sleeve top ¥31,900; T-shirt ¥14,300; Trousers ¥25,300; Boots ¥82,500 (all from HYKE/BOWLES, Phone: 03-3719-1239)

You use your own hands to bring to life a work of art created with love and care by someone else, somewhere else.

If the first brew is the tea’s popular single, then the second brew could be considered the B-side. And they can even be mixed together.

Maybe music and tea have more in common than I thought.

Drop the needle, and hear the music play. Perhaps it’s the fact that you can feel your involvement in the process that gives analog music such warmth.

I think, ponder, debate, change my mind, and finally come to a decision based on little more than intuition.

It’s a wonderful feeling to expand one’s cultural palate.

    To be continued.
